Don`t treat this lightly. Applying for a grant or bursary is something that will suck up time and energy, but you will only need to do it once a year so do it well. There are numerous steps you need to follow in order to apply for a grant, but make sure that you include the following recommended steps in your routine in order to get it right.
Complete Everything. There is a great temptation to think that this or that is not important hence you do not need to fill in that blank. Wrong. You do need to do this. Complete the application very carefully and do not leave anything blank or unanswered. This is the number one mistake that students do and it is in their detriment. If it is on the form there is a high chance that someone will take that in consideration. If something does not really apply to you say that in written so that they can see that you are thorough.
Be clean. Complete the application form like it is an art piece. Every document that is written or printed must be perfect. Do not do add-ons or write over with a pen in a hurry. That will be noticed and it will not benefit you. It is better to invest more time in this than to do it in a hurry and lose money.
Confirm the submission. You will send your application, but sometimes things go wrong and the application does not get there without you knowing it. It is not your fault, but that does not make things any better. Check if your application has arrived. Call or send an email if you do not get a written confirmation and if you do get one keep it until you find out the answer from the institution. If something happens, this receipt will do you good in fixing the situation.
It`s the little things. The little things can sabotage you into not getting that grant. If you don`t pay attention to what you submit and to all the process of application, you might miss something or do something wrong and blow your chances so do everything perfectly.
