Bursaries are essentially money that you get in order to complete your studies and which you do not have to give back. A bursary is offered by independent schools, institutions and sometimes by the state or various organizations.

A bursary is offered based on a special ability that you might have and that sets you apart from the crowd, a proven financial need, and athletic skill or an academic achievement of some kind. This means that you either have to be very good at something (whether it is sports, mathematics, biology, chemistry or something related to educational activities) or be in need of financial aid. The first step is to go to the financial office at your university and ask if there are any bursaries available and if you could apply for one. You will also receive all the requirements and you will need to fill out an application. In the application you must include the proof of how much your parents earn and if that sum is below a certain level set by the university your chances of getting a bursary will sky-rocket. When you apply make sure you ask for skill-based bursaries also and specify if you got exceptional results in an educational field. Usually if you perform really well you will be noticed by your teachers and you will be recommended for a bursary.
